La colazione italiana

A sweet start to the day

Italy and breakfast, as diverse as the country are the culinary traditions of the local people's daily breakfast, which vary greatly by region.

For Italians, this will Colazione Taken at the bar while standing quickly before starting work. People chat with acquaintances or colleagues and read in one of the daily newspapers displayed in the bars.

In Italy, breakfast is often simple and easy. It typically consists of coffee, such as an espresso or cappuccino, and something sweet, such as a croissant (cornetto) or a piece of pastry. Many Italians also enjoy a piece of panettone or pandoro, especially during the holidays. In the South of the Country, a small glass of water is served free of charge with an espresso.

It is less sumptuous than in other countries, but very tasty and tends to be more sweet! In addition to coffee and a croissant, the ingredients of Italian cooking include milk, coffee, rusks, jam, yoghurt and orange juice

Here I will take you on a journey into Italian breakfast habits.

From rye bread in South Tyrol to focaccia in Liguria to granità in Sicily...

Italians' favorite place for breakfast - the coffee bar

Mountains and lakes - Trentino Alto Adige
South Tyrol looks back on a long history of baking. Locally grown rye became the home of black bread and shake bread. The latter is made from rye flour, water, yeast, salt and some spices. Typical of mountain regions, fresh bread with marmalade made from the surrounding forests and butter made from mountain farmers' milk is eaten to start the day.

The charming coast of northern Italy - Liguria
We are staying in Northern Italy and Liguria, on the other hand, offering a delicious, semi-salty breakfast with its charming coastline. The focaccia, seasoned with olive oil and salt, is accompanied by a full-bodied cappuccino.
